State LTC Ombudsman Role

The Older Americans Act requires every state to have an Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman. The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is a separate and independent program serving residents in long-term care. The role of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman encompasses:

  • Coordination and oversight of the statewide Ombudsmen representatives
  • Directing the statewide program
  • Providing systemic advocacy for residents by monitoring laws and testifying in legislation on bills impacting long-term care residents
  • Data analysis and public education regarding the rights of residents living in long-term care settings
  • Ensuring the confidentiality of all ombudsmen records
